2019 Carignan | Trimble Vineyard Mendocino

This is an incredible example of an long overlooked varietal that is also rare in California. Pours as a deep burgundy hue, with a nose full of dark cherry, blackberries, anise and clove. On the palate, flavors of cherry and blackberry, with an electric acidity and a hint of carbonic character, whilst still moderately bodied and tannic with a delightful buoyancy. On the tail, black pepper, a hint of licorice, and reminders of dark fruit.

Good with roast or grilled meats, especially with a little salt or char. Try it with roast duck, roasted asparagus, and steak. Also good with marinated grilled meats like kalbi and satay.
